We have much to look forward to this month. The first is that the entire month is a celebration of Black History. If you read the reports of all that African American's have done for more than 100 years, it is amazing how much they have contributed and how little we as a population know about it! We hope to use this month to continue to educate ourselves on these things and to begin to introduce Isaac to them as well. Billy just finished reading Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave. I will be reading it this week and he is now reading Uncle Tom's Cabin (which is one of my personal top 5 favorite books). A couple weeks ago I finished a book from the library about how slavery was some times harder on the women. That was very informative, and sad. This Sunday the 4th begins a two day National Read-In. To participate you should spend Sun and Mon reading books and/or articles written by African American authors. Billy, Isaac, and I will be attending a Read-In event at our local library on Sunday afternoon where there will be a story teller. Other ways that we hope to celebrate this month include a city-wide Black History celebration on Feb. 16th.Also this month, we are looking forward to celebrating the day Isaac came home, the birth of Brandi & Jeremy's baby, Valentine's Day, and baby showers for my dear friend, Gloria. It is going to be a busy month!
