Today was my first day of Mops. My sister and I joined a group at her church. This is a national organization of Christian women who have children newborn to age 5. We meet two Wed. a month and have brunch, group time, and a speaker. It was a really great time. And I won a doorprize! Fun! Isaac and Vivi go to the "Moppets" childcare program from 9-11:30, so it is going to be a nice break for me! Isaac had a fit when I dropped him off, of course. But when I picked him up he was so happy! He didn't fuss at me but just said "Mooommmm!" with a big smile on his face. It was a real joy to see him enjoy his time of playing, coloring, playdough, Veggie tales, and a Bible lesson. Plus, Samantha is in his class so that is good too. The teachers said that they fussed and fought with each other some...we had to explain that they are cousins. They do that.

The women in our group are all really nice and the Mentor Mom (a woman in her 60's) adopted her two children as well, so we might have stuff to talk about in the future. The Mom's were a bit too interested (for my comfort level) in the fact that I adopted my kids, but I managed to get through it with just a few "off" questions. Like, "Are they related? Are they American? Are they caucasian? Didn't it take a long time to adopt them and cost like $30,000?" I hope I handled the questions and comments with grace as I was starting to squirm a bit in my seat. One woman proceded to tell the group (with no real knowledge on the subject) about how "nobody adopts in America anymore, it is just too risky and takes too long. You don't have to deal with that with kids overseas." Really? Hmmm...tell that to my friends who adopted from Guatemala and Russia. I'm sure they would disagree. And when I told her we brought our daughter home 3 months after our agency orientation, she was shocked.

Anyway- now that we have cleared the air on that (I hope!), I think it will be a fun 9 months of mingling with other Moms going down the same path. Not to mention the break I get from my little munchkins!

After reading this, I hope my stories seem less exaggerated. I'm just not creative enough to make this kind of stuff up. Real life is truly stranger than fiction.

Yeah, nice. I've had comments like "you know some of these kids don't have a conscience" it took everything in me to draw the diagram of the limbic system and talk about ways for these little ones to bond. Says a lot about living in a community that knows what you are talking about, huh?
