I don't normally post news events on this blog, but I saw this today and had to talk about it. It is a video of the celebrity Ellen crying on her talk show because of an incident she had with a dog rescue group. You can read about it and watch the video here:

I was really moved watching this. I know what it is like to work with an agency, make a huge mistake that you didn't know was a mistake, and pay for it dearly. And the pain of not being able to do anything or take back time and do it differently haunts you for a long, long time. Now obviously children and dogs are different, but grief is grief.
Billy and I worked with the Humane Society as doggie foster parents, looking for homes for stray dogs. They had a similar contract and I was actually told by the President of the organization that if at any time for ANY reason I felt that I needed to remove a dog that had been placed with a family, I could do so...for the entire life of that dog! Can you believe that? Now, obviously if a dog is being abused that is a wonderful rule to have. But for any reason at all? Like I don't like that they travel a lot and have him boarded, or I don't like that they leave him outside during the day while they are at work. And that is justification to take a dog from his family? Sad.

Laurie,
I watched it also on the news. Very sad. Your right, kids and dogs are different but the grief is still very real either way.
I hope it works out for her.
