Race and Self Image

A Manhattan highschool student did a documentary on how African American children saw the image of race by using two identical dolls (one white, one black) in her experiment. You HAVE to watch this 5 minute clip on CNN. Go to http://news.yahoo.com and click on the picture on the right that has the little boy with the dolls. I literally cried watching this when they continually chose the black doll as "mean" and the white doll as "nice".

Eye-opening.

Billy and I talked about how there are no dark-skinned African American females as celebrities that are seen as beautiful. Halle Berry, Tyra Banks, and even Oprah have light to medium skin tones. And then there is the whole issue of "good" hair. Dare I bring up Beyonce? *sigh*
